A wonderful small museum full of insights to the roman Army and the building, history and workings of Hadrians wall. The film was quite moving after having visited nearby Vindolanda earlier in the day. That is highly recommended by the way. Buying a savers ticket online has a discount and gets you into both the museum and vindolanda itself.
I hope to return one day to see what the upcoming works on the fort of Magna turn up. If it's anything close to what Vindolanda gave us, it will be incredible.

Great for younger visitors. Most exhibits seemed aimed for the youngsters. Was still an interesting visit, but saw it all in 30 mins.

A fantastic museum.
The children loved it just as much as I did.
The staff were all so amazingly friendly and welcoming.
Would 100% return next time I am in the area.

The museum itself is informative ,interactive and interesting.
My review is less because the cafe at 10am had nothing apart from cake and we were wanting breakfast before seeing the museum.
They should maybe post online they have nothing to offer weary travellers.
Apparently it’s because they were so quiet.

Absolutely fantastic museum and a must visit especially if you have bought tickets to see Vindolanda as the price includes entry for a whole 12mths.
Great artifacts, informative info and movie theatre telling the tale of the Romans edge of empire.

Absolutely Brilliant. Spent 2.5 hours there. Will go to Vindolanda in 6 weeks time. Too much to take all in on one day.

Part of the Vindolanda estate and marvellous museum with very knowledgeable staff. Small cafe and shop with limited range toilets tidy and clean.

Great place to start a visit to Hadrian's Wall. They show a great movie about life as a Roman Soldier. Plus some great exhibits

Some interesting animated displays. Most exhibits seemed to be from Vindolanda. There is a good explanation of Hadrian's Wall and Walltown is nearby, where you can see a section of it.

Very informative and great local archeological finds. If you're going to visit Hadrians wall, definitely put this spot on your itinerary together with the Vindolanda site. You can get a duo ticket for both sites!

A good Museum. With plenty of films to watch regarding Roman Army life and life on Hadrians wall. Plenty of exhibits to see and very helpful staff.
The site is already sn active archaeological dig and is due to become more active going forward.
Is the sister museum to Vindolanda with a saver ticket deal if you are looking to visit both sites.

A pretty good Roman Army museum, not quite as good as it's linked sister site Vindolanda, but has lots of items and videos, a great cafe and combined tickets for both this and Vindolanda are discounted. Perfect if the weather outside is just too wet!
Sounds odd, but the toilets are absolutely stunning (and clean).
